Job Title: Cheerful Day Camp Counselor
Department: Recreational Programs
Reports to: Cheerful Day Camp Coordinator(s)
POSITION OVERVIEW
Responsible for the safety, care and daily supervision of campers ages 7 to 18 who have been identified as having physical and/or developmental disabilities.
Pay Rate $400.
00 per week ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Create a welcoming environment and establishes good relationships with campers through appropriate social interactions.
Manages direct care of campers assisting with physical and personal care needs (feeding, diapering, toileting, hand washing, dressing, etc.
).
Leads by example and participates in all camp activities; encouraging and supporting camper participation.
Assists, coordinates, and records activity of daily living needs and schedules.
Completes assigned paperwork and documentation in a timely manner.
Attends all required training, staff information exchange sessions, and staff meetings; reports and discusses all incidents with camp coordinators, other counselors, and camp management.
Addresses concerns of all campers and encourages feedback to ensure an excellent camp experience.
Interacts with other staff in a supportive and appropriate manner; interacts positively and provides appropriate feedback with all camp staff.
Be receptive to constructive feedback.
Knowledgeable of camper’s physical, social and personal care needs.
Gives constant attention to health and safety of campers (i.
e.
safety belts on all wheelchairs, prevents over-exposure to heat and sun, uses sunscreen and watches for de-hydration, etc.
).
Interact well to campers, volunteers, and camp visitors.
Uses age-appropriate language and interpersonal skills with campers and staff.
Reports any acts of maltreatment, neglect, and/or other violations of camp policies immediately to the camp manager.
ONGOING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Promotes a positive image by representing the Achievement Centers for Children at Camp Cheerful in a courteous and professional manner.
Adheres to all Policies/Procedures in the Achievement Centers for Children Staff Handbook.
Promotes a team approach within each program and throughout the agency while holding team accountable for achievement of goals.
Works in family-centered partnerships with the individuals and families served by the Achievement Centers for Children Practices safe work habits and contributes to ensuring a safe and healthful work environment.
Maintains the department (camp) to allow for safe, efficient and organized delivery of agency services.
Maintains all equipment in safe working order, notifying supervisor of repairs/replacements as needed.
Practices appropriate safety techniques related in Infection Control and Universal Precautions including hand washing, equipment and toy disinfecting, and laundry.
Fosters and maintains good public relations with all community sources.
Conducts self with professional dignity; understands the importance of good human relations; able to motivate others; and possesses initiative and good judgment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS listed below are indicative of knowledge, skills, and abilities required to be successful in this position.
Education, Training, and/or Experience Preferred previous experience working with individuals with disabilities Must be at least 18 years old High School Diploma and/or G.

D Personal Skills and Abilities Have experience working in group situations.
Show maturity and responsibility in all actions.
Display a sincere interest in working with our campers.
Must be willing to adapt to daily changes.
Must be enthusiastic and creative.
Must treat all staff fairly and remain objective.
Must show respect for all administrative staff.

During warm months, majority of time spent outdoors.
