Overview: Mid-West Forge is looking for a goal-oriented self-starter to join us for an internship within our Engineering Department.
This person would work closely with the Engineering Manager on a wide range of projects including process improvement or implementation of new technologies, with a focus on design and rebuild, as well as collaboration on site communications, and maintenance/quality audits.
We welcome hands on learners who are eager to gather substantial fundamental experience in Engineering.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist Mechanical engineers with the preparation of project records, documentation and paperwork.
Participate in design & rebuild projects including preparation of project forms and documentation, design specification and implementation.
Provide technical support to maintenance and quality cohorts as needed.
Collect, report and present data in company meetings.
Use computer aided drafting systems to prepare drawings and documentation related to specific engineering projects.
Create working digital models to predict machine behavior and repair plans.
Update numerous existing plan drawings and blueprints via Solidworks.
Other projects and tasks as assigned.

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience:
Enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for Mechanical Engineering or similar program.

Experience with Microsoft office, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
Experience working with SolidWorks or related software (Inventor, Fusion360, etc)

Physical Demands:
Stand, walk, push, pull, squat, bend, and reach during shifts.
Use carts, dollies, and jacks to transport materials if needed.
Must be able to occasionally lift and or move up to 40lbs.
Acclimate to high noise and vibration levels in workspaces.
Wear and adhere to all PPE guidelines including hard hats, protective eye wear, ear plugs, and approved footwear with metatarsal and steel toe safeguards.
Work Environment: The Engineering Intern will be stationed in our Administrative Office building but will often times be required to collaborate on projects inside of our onsite manufacturing plants.
These areas contain historic machinery, robots and shipping lanes.
Work within the plants usually involves proximity to heat, noise, debris, conveyance systems and other potentially dangerous equipment.
There are high levels of floor and overhead traffic due to material transportation within each department which can cause noticeable vibration and airborne disturbances.
