The Senior IT Database Engineer role will assist in the design, development, and implementation of database management systems and related software in support of a variety of applications.
The Senior Database Engineer is responsible for maintaining, supporting, and upgrading existing database management systems and related applications, as well as providing automation for data management, schema management, environment provisioning and operational tasks.
This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills and knowledge of best practices to help IT teams on issues related to the delivery of information and database systems.

All project and support tasks must be completed consistent with Company goals, industry best practices and regulatory requirements while ensuring data protection and security in highly visible, mission-critical environments.
Essential Functions Strategy & Planning Participate and support management in the assessment and development of long-term strategic goals for databases technologies and related products in conjunction with application business requirements.
Support management in the assessment and development of long-term strategic goals for production databases in conjunction with application data owners and department managers.
Work with application development staff to develop database architectures, tuning/coding standards, and quality assurance policies and procedures.
Design and implementation of redundant systems, policies, and procedures for backup/recovery, disaster recovery, monitoring, alerting and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.
Contribute to the design of data flow across different environments and down to developer local instances.
Acquisition & Deployment Support Management in the development and deployment of new database applications, systems software, and/or enhancements to existing applications throughout the enterprise.
Support Management in research and making recommendations on database and related software products and services in support of procurement and development efforts.
Coordinate feasibility studies for database software and related system products under consideration for purchase, and give advice based on findings, where required.
Ensure that any new database software integration into company systems meets functional requirements, system compliance, and interface specifications.
Collaborate with analysts, designers, and system owners in the testing of new database software programs and applications.
Operational Management Provide direction for the development team in support of business operations.
Identify and resolve program and data errors where applicable.
Design, develop, and install enhancements and upgrades to database systems and application software.
Design, develop, and implement processes to ensure data is in sync across environments.
Use infrastructure-as-code principles and development workflow to provide automation and repeatable processes for environment creation, maintenance, and enhancement.
Liaise with network administrators, security engineers, architects and software engineers to assist with quality assurance, program logic, and data processing.
Responsible for documentation requirements in the team’s knowledge base.
Work with monitoring and testing systems to ensure performance standards are documented and met.

Position Requirements Formal Education & Certification Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology field of study (e.

Knowledge & Experience 5+ years of IT experience.
5+ years of experience of hands-on database tuning, troubleshooting and administration.
3+ years of experience working with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Relational Database Service (RDS) technologies or other major cloud DBaaS offerings.
Experience working with IBM DB2 database technologies or other major RDBMS.
Working knowledge of KSH/BSH scripting.
Understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
Familiar with CI/CD practices, concepts, and tools.
Experience with Git for code versioning and team development.
Experience with database monitoring.
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills Hands on experience with specific database systems such as MariaDB, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB in our out of Cloud settings.
Experience and knowledge of IT processes of Incident Management, Problem Management, Change Management, and Configuration Management.
Hands on experience with DB2 LUW v11.
